Brown Girls Brunching | Clarksville, TN

Shortly after Black Women in Creative Spaces, I hosted a women’s history brunch in my home town of Clarksville, Tennessee. Though it had a lot of the same foundation as my Nashville event this brunch had a little special sauce on it since it was at home.

My goal with this event was to really show up for the city. I’ve been here since elementary school with the exception of college, and haven’t seen anything high-quality that supported and empowered the huge community of black women who live here.

My keynote speaker was Clarkesville native and very successful entrepreneur Jessica “J.Renee” Jones. Jessica as an author, speaker, boutique owner, and miss Black Clarkesville to 2008. (That’s how I met her ) She shared a powerful message about the importance of follow-through and curating a tribe of go-getters and gold chasers. She inspired and empowered every woman in a room honing in on their passions and need for encouragement.

Following the keynote, attendees enjoyed an afternoon of shopping local vendors, networking, mimosas, and great discussions. In addition to our keynote speaker, I had to panel discussions that include some of the cities most influential and recognized black women:

Chelsea Camp - Co-owner of The Juicing Station and Director of Butterfly Moment

Juanita Charles- Realtor and creator of Manifest Magic

Tangi Smith - Founder of Women Elevated; Veteran Outreach Program

Sharon Edward founder of I’m Invisible Bullying

Selena Doy- Realtor and CEO of Millennium Financial Services

Erica Bellamy - Co-Owner of The Juicing Station

Each woman opened their hearts and shared a candid view of their entrepreneurial endeavors, their involvement with the community, and their continued pursuit for success.

The love and light in the room were overflowing! I tried my hardest to keep it G, but by the end of the event the tears were coming almost faster than attendees coming to congratulate me.

Brown Girls Brunching was such a moment. Not only for me, but for all black women in Clarksville. I think it showed that we are here, and we are ready. Being in a small town doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve big things.

I thank everyone who showed up. I thank everyone who purchased a ticket. I thank everyone who continues to believe in me.
