Gross Sisters Halloween Makeup
The Proud Family was such an iconic show. It wasn’t stereotypical black. It wasn’t what white show producers thought black was. IT WAS BLACK! From the theme song to Sticky’ durag to the Gross Sisters being so ashy they were BLUE - The Proud Family got so many things right about black families and diverse communities.
All of the characters on the show were great, but for me there was just something about the Gross Sisters. This had this almost Bebe’s kids vibe about them. They were ghetto and tough and seriously “straight jackin” but there was also something very likable about them. They also brought about many of the laughs in each episode.
One of my absolute favorite episodes was the one where Nubia forced the girls to give Olay a makeover. They got my girl RIGHT, but she was still blue and ashy. HA!! Man, I seriously feel bad for kids who didn’t get to grow up on this.
If bringing nostalgia if your goal this Halloween then I would hands-down suggest this costume. It will be a conversation starter, no doubt.
