Brown Girls Brunching

August 29 I hosted my second annual brown girls Brunching business networking event. This is one of my favorite events of the the year because it features all of my favorite things: food, drink, great convo, and tons of black girl magic.

I did the event a little different this year. Instead of having multiple panels and vendors, I simplified and focused on networking, building connections and personal branding. Because I didn’t do multiple panels there were as many guest speakers as there was last year, however, the impact and takeaways were not lost.

This year I called on a friend, writer, and personal branding powerhouse to present a customized personal branding workshop to all attendees.

Named one of Nine Black Women Leaders Dedicated to Empowering Others by Forbes, Brittney Oliver is a marketing communications professional specializing in public relations, event management, and social media strategy. Based in Nashville, TN, Brittney’s expertise and insights have been featured in Essence, Forbes, Fast Company, Refinery29, Black Enterprise, and countless podcasts. With a passion for helping millennials ease the transition from college to career, Brittney launched, Lemons to Lemonade, a series of events to help them create opportunities for themselves when the job search gets tough. Since 2016, she’s hosted 30 events in cities like New York, Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles, attracting 1,500 attendees, landing sponsorships and partnerships with brands like Verizon, Lyft, PayPal, Bumble, LinkedIn and Jack Daniel's.

She is also a Clarksville, TN. native and a graduate of Kenwood high school just like me. Go Knights!!

In addition to their personal branding workshop brunch guests also received a one of a kind goal setting workbook that I created myself. This workbook helps women reflect on previous successes and areas of improvement, map out SMART goals,  hold themselves accountable, and plan for the future.

Just like last year, this event completely sold out. I am so thankful to all of the amazing women who attended and supported the event. I am also thankful to all of the incredible black women who made this event possible. Brown Girls Brunching is a very intentional title and along with that title I use this event to support black and brown business owners in the community. Our venue owner, bar tender, photographer, caterer, guest speaker, decorator, and desert makers were all black women. Check out their businesses below.
